Renovation Update, Part 19

Hello!

This week we had several flooring crews working throughout the church, a carpenter working on the confessional and music library, a drywall crew finishing the back wall, a sound team installing the new sound system, and electricians working on the lighting. In other words, it was a very busy week!

Flooring installation was finished in the sanctuary; the new tile is looking great! The choir loft and hallways behind the sanctuary also saw significant progress. All of the new flooring continues the transformation of our church, and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to see it in person!

After considerable amounts of drywall work, the rear wall of the church is finally ready for painting. This is the last major painting work needed in the church.

Next week will be more of the same, with tile installation continuing in the nave.

Peace,

Fr. Brandon

Renovation Update, Part 18

Good morning!

This week we began the next major phase of the project: flooring installation. The flooring crew began laying out the tile work in the sanctuary, making all the cuts necessary for the oddly shaped space. On Friday the first sections were set into mortar. The photos below show the section where the altar will sit, and some of the detail along the wall. I also included a picture showing how the tile arrives on pallets; many of these pallet loads are required for the whole church!

Work also continued on the drywall and exterior oak paneling for the confessional/closet.

We also received word from the artist working on the reredos murals that the Crucifixion scene is nearly complete!

Finally, to assist the flooring installation more of the new lights in the sanctuary were powered on for the first time. I added the final photo to show this. There are more lights to go, but it is really looking excellent!

Peace,

Fr. Brandon

Renovation Update, Part 17

Hello!

The work this week focused on the flooring and carpentry work on the confessional/usher closet.

On Monday the floor of the entire church was scraped down, removing the old glue residue. This is an important step in preparing for the new flooring, but more immediately allowed for the installation of the new hearing loop. The hearing loop allows for individuals using hearing aids to directly access the output from our sound system, greatly enhancing their auditory experience. The strips of copper for the new loop are now installed, ready for the flooring to be installed on top. While we had a hearing loop in the church previously it was a retrofit installation limited by the location of the pews. This new loop is customized for our building, and should offer much more consistent coverage.

Construction began on the confessional and matching usher closet this week, with the framing, wiring, and initial drywall work all completed. The outside of these rooms will be covered with oak and stained to match the pews.

Finally, work continued in the choir loft, with some additional railings and wiring installed. The organ and piano were also moved upstairs in preparation for the installation of the organ speaker system.

The project is moving along well, and the list of things left to be done is slowly shrinking!

Peace,

Fr. Brandon
