Sirach 15:15-20 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 Matthew 5:17-37 The first reading, from Sirach, reminds us that if we keep God’s commandments and trust in him, we shall live. The second reading teaches that true wisdom is not found in the world, but rather in God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us to be vigilant regarding those desires of the heart that could lead us into grave sin.
A wise person is often thought of as someone having great knowledge. As Catholics, we are to see wisdom in a broader sense - seeing wisdom as having its origin in God, and of being given to us as a gift by the Holy Spirit. Wisdom helps us grow in the understanding of our faith, and helps us to choose what is right.
