Isaiah 8:23-9:3 1 Corinthians 1:10-13.17 Matthew 4:12-23
Today’s first reading speaks of light coming to the people who have been in darkness. There will be rejoicing on that day. In the second reading, the faithful are urged to be unified in Christ, not letting human rivalries divide them. The gospel tells of Jesus bringing the light of salvation to the world, fulfilling prophecies and calling his first Apostles.
A compass in our cars can come in handy when we are lost. With Christ as the compass for our life’s journey, we need not worry about which way we are to travel. No matter what direction we are coming from, we will arrive safely home to heaven if the Lord is our guide and companion.
