Isaiah 49:3-6 I Corinthians 1:1-3 John 1:29-34
In the first reading, we hear that God’s servant will be a light to the nations so that salvation might come to all. In the second reading, the faithful are reminded that they have been sanctified by Christ and are to be holy. In the Gospel, John the Baptist proclaims that Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.
Now that the Church’s celebration of the Christmas season is finished, we focus on the public ministry of Jesus for the next few Sundays, until the beginning of Lent. Each of these readings explains to us what it means to be called a servant of God. We are also called to be a sanctified people, to be holy in the sight of God.
