Weekend of January 8-9, 2011 The Baptism of the Lord

Isaiah 42:1-7                                      Acts 10:34-38                                              Matthew 3:13-17 Isaiah speaks of the Suffering Servant, who will gently bring peace and justice to all people.  In Acts, Peter proclaims that God’s salvation is open to all who believe.  In the Gospel, Jesus is baptized by John in obedience to his Father’s will, and is revealed as the Son of God.

Salvation is open to all who believe in Jesus and strive to do God’s will.  The journey toward this begins with Baptism.  Through Baptism we were given new life in Christ, made members of the Church, and given the Holy Spirit.  With the Holy Spirit to aid us, we are to do our part to extend the mission of the Church.
