Sunday, December 26, 2010-The Feast of the Holy Family

Sirach 3:2-7,12-14                           Colossians 3:12-21                              Matthew 2:13-15,19-23 The first reading teaches that respect within the family yields blessings.  In Colossians, Paul lists such virtues as humility, forgiveness and thankfulness, which those who follow Christ are to nurture.  He teaches about how the members of Christian families are to interact.  Today’s Gospel details the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt and their return to Nazareth.

Jesus chose to be born and to grow up within a family.  His family, made up of his foster father, his mother Mary, and himself, was marked by holiness, love and fidelity to God’s will.  Their example calls all Christian families to live in love and unity with God and one another, while striving to further the work of the Church.
