Isaiah 35:1-6 James 5:7-10 Matthew 17:9-13 In Isaiah, we hear prophesied what great things the Messiah will do. The second reading reminds us that Christ will come again, but we must be patient. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the disciples of John the Baptist that they need only look at what he has done to know if he is the Messiah.
From the perspective of eternity, weeks or years or even centuries mean very little. God always fulfills his promises, but we, whose perspective tends to be much more limited, usually need patience and faith to see them manifested. So it was when the world was waiting for its Savior, and so it is now, as we await his return.
