Weekend of August 21-22, 2010 - Twenty-First Sunday In Ordinary Time

Isaiah 66:18-21                                   Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13                                    Luke 13:22-30

The Prophet Isaiah tells us that God’s will is for people of all nations to give him glory.  The reading from Hebrews tells us that what is difficult can make us strong.  In the Gospel, Jesus uses an example of a narrow gate to teach that it will not be easy to live so as to gain entrance into the heavenly Kingdom.

It is only by means of truth - believed and lived - that one can come to life.  In a world filled with deception and lives, the truths Jesus taught shine as a light through a narrow door, showing us the path to eternal life.  As Christians, we cannot just know Christ.  We must follow Christ.  Taking his path, we plant our feet firmly on the way to eternal life.
