Weekend of January 2-3, 2010-The Epiphany of the Lord

Isaiah 60:1-6 Ephesians 3:2-6 Matthew 2:1-12

The first reading cautions us to be wary of false teachers who can lead us into darkness and away from living the command of Jesus to love him and love each other. The Gospel shows how Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy, becoming the world’s true Light and Salvation, as he preached and as he cured the ill throughout Galilee.

Fulfilling the promise prophesied by Isaiah many centuries before the Incarnation, Jesus invites us to follow him as the true Light of the World. It is through Him that the gift of eternal life is offered to us. Jesus shows us that the path out of sin and darkness in our lives is through loving him and living the gospel message of love and forgiveness.
