Sirach 3:2-7,12-14 or 1 Samuel 1:20-28 Colossians 3:12-21 or 1 John 3:1-2,21-24 Luke 2:41-52
Sirach speaks of the mutual care and respect desirable between parents and children. The Gospel tells of Jesus remaining in Jerusalem, and Mary and Joseph finding him in the Temple. Jesus returns with them to Nazareth and is obedient to them. In the second reading Paul emphasizes many virtues that are important to family life.
The Christian family is a domestic church because it is a community of faith, hope and charity. Within their families, most children first learn to be loved and to love; a reflection of God’s love for them. Protecting the sanctity of families and helping them in times of trouble is a major goal of the Church.
