Zephaniah 3:14-18a Philippians 4:4-7 Luke 3:10-18
Both the first and second readings for the Third Sunday of Advent are joyful proclamations that the Lord God is with his people. The second reading makes it clear this is now happening through Jesus. In the Gospel, we hear of John the Baptist teaching about loving and caring for one another. John also prepares the people for the One mightier than he who is coming.
The ministry of John the Baptist reminds us that we must continually prepare ourselves to welcome our Savior when he returns. John preached repentance and charity toward one another. His teach-
ings are still relevant in today’s world. Clinging to sinful and selfish ways can keep us from unity with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
