Weekend of November 28-29,2009-First Sunday of Advent

Jeremiah 33:14-16 1 Thessalonians 3:12-4:2 Luke 21:25-28,34-36

Jeremiah prophesies that the days are coming when God’s promise will be fulfilled through King David’s family. In the second reading, Paul teaches that those who please God will have nothing to fear at the day of judgment. Jesus, in the Gospel, speaks of his return and says this will be the day of redemption for the faithful.

The visit of an angel, the pregnancy of a virgin, a star in the East - these signs and others were the precursors of the Messiah being born into the world. Jesus tells us that signs will foretell his Second Coming into the world, as well. Anticipation of His return should inspire us to leave behind our ways of sin, and turn toward God.
