Weekend of August 8-9, 2009 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

1 Kings 19:4-8                                 Ephesians 4:30-5:2              John 6:41-51 The reading from first Kings tells how an angel ministered to Elijah so he could complete his journey to Mount Horeb.  The second reading reminds us that we are God’s dearly beloved children and are called to live in love.  In the Gospel, Jesus teaches the Jews that he is the living bread that came down from heaven.

Life’s difficulties can bring us, at times, to want to give up and say, like the prophet Elijah: This is enough, O Lord! Take my life.  But there is no reason to allow despair to take hold of our lives.  Just as God provided Elijah with what he needed to carry on, he will provide for us in any time or circumstances of our lives.
