Weekend of July 25-26, 2009 - Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

2 Kings 4:42-44                                           Ephesians 4:1-6                                            John 6:1-5 With faith in God, Elisha fed a hundred people with twenty barley loaves.  Similarly, Jesus took five loaves and two fish, gave thanks to the Father and fed more than five thousand, and all were satisfied.  Paul teaches us that Christians are united in one body, one hope, one faith, one Baptism, in the one Lord.

Throughout history humankind has survived and prospered because people learned early the benefits of cooperation and working for the common good.  Each day we live in this world is a miracle of God’s divine providence.  We should thank God, not only for our food, but also for the many blessings and benefits he sends our way.
