Weekend of July 4-5, 2009 - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Ezekiel 2:2-5                2 Corinthians 12:7-10            Mark 6:1-6 The first reading recalls Ezekiel being sent by God to prophesy to the Israelites, who have rebelled against the Lord.  In the second reading, Paul says he is content to be afflicted with a weakness, for it is in weakness that God can strengthen him.  In the Gospel, the people of Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus, refuse to believe in him.

When Jesus went to teach in his native synagogue, there was such a lack of faith shown in him that he was unable to perform any mighty deeds.  Are things any different in our lives?  Are we accepting all that Jesus could do for us, or is a lack of faith preventing Jesus from doing wonder- ful things for us?
